An Ungrateful Heart

Grumbling is contagious. I imagine that the grumbling attitude of the Israelites in Numbers 11-13 began with one or two people complaining, which led to three or four people complaining, and so on.

I'm not saying their lives were easy. They lived in tents in the wilderness. The smell in the heat of the day couldn't have been pleasant, with all the livestock they had and the sacrifices being made in the center of the camp. They ate the same food every meal of every day. They must've had relationship issues, just as every human being who has ever lived has relationship issues. There were plenty of things to complain about. Life is hard. Period. We can all find plenty of things to complain about. And complaining is oddly satisfying, especially if others join you. Ungratefulness is the easy path; gratitude is the more difficult path. Gratitude requires a choice. A choice to focus on God's goodness. A choice to trust God's motives and ways. A choice to let go of bitterness, envy and entitlement. A choice to look for the blessings God has already given rather than demanding that He give more.

"When we remind ourselves often that all we are and all we have is a gift from God (James 1:17), we are guarding ourselves against idolatry and pride." https://www.gotquestions.org/Bible-ingratitude.html

On what will you choose to focus today?
