God Never Forsakes

At first glance, this seems so simple and comforting. I normally use this truth as a spiritual reset button. I.e., When I feel like I've drifted away from God, I seek God, knowing that He won't forsake me. Don't get me wrong -- this is a GOOD thing to do when we feel like we've drifted away from God. However, when I look closely at the whole verse quoted here, it starts with knowing God's name (i.e., His character) and trusting Him. This Psalm as a whole paints a picture of David's habit of trusting God. He is being persecuted by enemies (Psalm 9:13), but that's not the first thing He brings to God in prayer. He starts the Psalm by worshiping God and recalling God's past faithfulness. He declares the truth about God's trustworthiness. He chooses to trust God's motives, ways and timing. THEN he brings his crisis to God.
David doesn't wait until there's a crisis to trust God. He develops a habit of trusting God by reflecting on the truth of Who God is and what God has done, and that gives him the confidence he needs to trust God through the crisis.
I'm going to try to form a new habit of reminding myself daily of Who God is and what He has done. I think this is as simple as just spending a few minutes in private prayer, worshiping God and thanking Him. The Psalms can be very helpful in doing that. Instead of using Psalm 9:10 as a spiritual reset when I've drifted away from God, I am hoping to use it as a daily reminder to know God's name and trust Him so that I DON'T drift away from God. This is, indeed, simple and comforting.
